Local residents vote down sales tax hike

In the recent Illinois General Primary Election, Winnebago County and City of Rockford residents voted down the proposed countywide school facility sales tax referendum.

This outcome reflects the strength of the Rockford Chamber PAC (ROCPAC) opposition campaign in partnership with the Northwest Illinois Alliance of REALTORS. It further demonstrates the Greater Rockford Chamber of Commerce’s (GRCC) commitment to ensuring policy decisions balance educational excellence with economic sustainability.

This effort was the result of governance and procedures the GRCC has put in place over the past several months to ensure its government affairs work is aligned with organizational policies, values, and strategies. With oversight from the GRCC Board of Directors, the Chamber’s Government Affairs Committee defined the Chamber’s position, and the ROCPAC Committee and staff spearheaded advocacy efforts.
