Step into the lobby at FatWallet headquarters in Rockton, and you might wonder if you’ve stepped into the ultimate rec room. The arcade games, foosball, pool table and fully stocked kitchen and coffee bar draw a few employees out of their offices for a quick break.

Tim Storm, CEO of FatWallet, says he just wants to create an environment with the benefits of working from home, while maintaining a collaborative workspace.

“I’m proud of the 42 jobs we’ve created... Along the way, I thought about what I would want if it were me,” Storm says. “Knowledge workers add value in lots of other areas in the community. If I attract talent, they will make this an even better place.”

FatWallet.com started as an idea that required $100 and approval from Storm’s wife. Once he got the nod, Storm used that money to create a one-page listing of coupons, and within one month, he had made that $100 back. Ten months later, the pet project had enough cash flow that he could afford to leave his “real job” as director of internet technology to focus on FatWallet’s future.

Today, Tim Storm is the self proclaimed “Chief Mucky-Muck” of the online community and a shopping resource for more than 900,000 savvy online shoppers. The company’s mission is to “Serve consumers with knowledge, value and guidance,” and the B.H.A.G. (Big Hairy Audacious Goal) is to have 10 million engaged FatWallet citizens in 2017.

Beyond the job, Storm is the president of the Shirland School Board, a huge IceHogs and Rampage fan, and a bit of a thrill seeker.He recently joined a group of other business mavericks and will meet with fellow CEOs to share ideas and once in-a-lifetime experiences, including adventure golf, aerial dog fighting (a la Top Gun), and a ride in the “Vomit Comet,” an airplane that reproduces weightlessness by following a parabolic flight path. Looks like this Chief Mucky-Muck won’t be slowing down anytime soon, and neither will FatWallet.com.
