Elizabeth Dailing, 32
Rockfrd Art Museum Education Director
By Paul Anthony Arco
Elizabeth Dailing has been all over the world. And the travel has given the Rockford native a greater appreciation for her hometown. “I see young people who dedicate their time and effort in the community, who really invest in where they live,” she said.
As education director for the Rockford Art Museum, the Boylan graduate is responsible for the museum’s programming, education budgets, education marketing, planning and promotion.
“I enjoy finding different audiences that haven’t been exposed to the museum,” Dailing said. “I can show people an art museum that they would have to drive to Chicago to see. We have an amazing permanent collection of art work that enhances the quality of life in Rockford.”
Dailing has been involved with several local agencies, some of which have ties to her work with the museum, including the Rockford Area Arts Council. She’s also worked with Visual Interest, a support group for young art professionals, the Natural Land Institute, the League of Women Voters and Haight Village Historic District, where she currently makes her home. “I support things that I feel will help the community as a whole.”
When she has time, Dailing loves to explore the world. In 2000, she spent a year teaching and earning an MBA in Paris. Other favorite destinations include Italy, Spain, the Netherlands, Hungary and Mexico. Dailing enjoys getting out of her comfort zone and discovering new experiences. “Being forced into another culture is humbling,” she said. “Just buying groceries can be a challenge when living abroad.”
And it’s always nice to come home again. “Rockford feels like a small town. You have personal relationships with a lot of people that you just don’t see in other parts of the world.”
